Rik Lopes

Rik spent like three years asking to get involved with No Nude Men before I finally let him, and boy was that a mistake on my part. Charming, resourceful, organized, friendly and much less of a basket case than I am (or at least, a lot better at faking it), Rik stepped in to assistant direct the No Nude Men workshop of Mathew 33:06 back when I was still recovering from having spent the summer helming A Midsummer Night’s Dream and needed a vacation so badly I left the show in his capable hands for a whole week while I jaunted off to New York and Toronto to see friends. When I came back, the first third of the show, which I’d blocked before leaving, was not only up and running but a scene had been re-worked to run smoother and the second two thirds of the play had been run through enough times to have the actors primed for picking up their moves as we careened through the third week of rehearsals and headed into dress. With me back on board, Rik continued to prove invaluable, taking down blocking notes, running errands, running lines, helping us to save our set on the day it failed and in general just always being where you needed him, when you needed him. Truly a delight, I now can’t imagine why I ever made it so hard for him to climb on board (I think I just had a lot of folks in line at the time); of course, the irony is, he’s now probably too in demand to stick around for very long. Proof you should never take anyone for granted.
