Angela Kamel
A theater student from the U of A who came to me through Jim Driscoll-MacEachron, I first met Angie at the opening night party for Horror Unspeakable's Edward II. She next popped up as the stage manager for Anne's production of Macbeth, where I had only an inkling as to how indispensable she was. In fact, my principal memory of her during that time is me saying, "I need a beer and a cheeseburger like you wouldn't believe" and her responding, "That is a good fucking idea." When we finally did collaborate it turned out that Angie was a balls-to-the-wall, no-nonsense stage manager and I seriously couldn't have pulled The Odyssey off without her. This woman did everything, from helping me keep the sixteen actors in line to putting away all the props and scenery each night to preparing all the various food items that had to be made fresh for each performance (The Odyssey is full of eating scenes). When the lights failed on the first two nights of The Odyssey, Angie kept everything together and found ways to get the work lights to work for our advantage. She ran the sound cues, she hauled scenery into the theater, and she stopped me from freaking out every ten minutes as I tried to put together what is to date my most ambitious show. Perhaps not too surprisingly, she backed out of Attack of the Killer Space Zombies, but she was there on opening night to show her support and when she moved to San Diego that summer I gave her my couch. The last I heard she was doing the graduate school thing in San Diego and stage managing some really intense shows, but I seriously doubt there is a show out there that can beat Angie Kamel.
