April De Luna

Apparently I went to high school with April and she knew my sister, but I didn't notice her until she showed up in a series of one acts Anne Heintz was directing at the University of Arizona. An accomplished youngster who had appeared in Arsenic and Old Lace and The Servant of Two Masters with Randolph Community Theater, in the summer of 2001 she volunteered to assistant direct the Horror Unspeakable revival Vincent of Gilgamesh and later that fall she was a very neurotic and yet lovable Lisa in The Exiled. The café scene in particular was a highlight of her performance, with her snide delivery of the bill proving that the right actress can milk even the smallest moment for laughs. Though a self-professed "un-comedic" actress, April proved she was funny once again when she originated the role of Donna in Attack of the Killer Space Zombies, her space zombie accent something of a cross between a femme fatale from a film noire movie and Dracula. She owned all of her own slut gear, which came in handy, and her belly button really was pierced, making Shelley's reference to Donna's crusting naval ring that much funnier. Since I left Tucson I haven't heard much about her but last time word came along the grapevine she was working on a novel. I'm guessing it wasn't a comedy, but chances are it'll still be funny, in the good way.
