Caleb Orion Jacobs-Smith
Quite a name for quite a guy, Caleb was a Reed College theater major who rocked the role of Jake Ion for both productions of Wild Blue Peaks. Talk, lanky, handsome and better dressed than any gay man I've ever met, this guy was the epitome of the cocky straight boy actor who took being a thespian to the level that jocks take being football plays- and yet he was totally approachable, amiable and cool. You could have a drink with him and feel comfortable talking about your love life, art and philosophy or Saturday morning cartoons, all with equal ease. Originally from the Bay Area, he now lives in New York, where he occasionally hangs around with all my friends there, particularly Leah Heifferon, and has continued to act on stage and in film, as well as model, manage contemporary artists, and in every other way stay involved with the creative side of life. My current favorite Caleb quote is, "As soon as I find out a girl's into cocaine I'm done with her," and if I haven't worked with him as much as I'd like to I'm consoled by the fact that he is one of the few people out there who actually does take me seriously- ironically because of what is easily the silliest thing I ever wrote. Battle on, Caleb. You are the dream.
