Carl Lucania
Carl is one of those totally awesome people who walks into your life with utter openness and honesty and endears himself to you even as you’re trying to push him out because you’re going through a period of hating the world and don’t want to be reminded that good people exist. Not that this is what happened with us but… well… anyway, he’s tons of fun and very talented, trained at the San Francisco State, and was once dance partners with Annette Benning during summer stock his freshman year- a bit of trivia I like to introduce him with at parties, much to his embarrassment. These days he does a lot more singing than acting, fronting a band he always swears is about to play its last show and yet has somehow continued to exist for over two years now. He did, however, agree to take the spoken stage once again to appear as Valjean in No Nude Men’s contribution to the 2006 San Francisco Theater Festival, receiving applause on his first speech and only screwing up once- but no one noticed. He played opposite Alexis Boozer’s Cosette with bashful sweetness and treated James Tinsley’s Marius like the punk he is but mostly he was the best person I, as Javert, could have wished to hunt down for a whole thirty minutes. Not that it’s ever hard to find Carl. He’s the kind of friend who finds you, not the kind you lose.
