Celeste Coit

Celeste is a trip and a half, the kind of feisty lady who comes into a show and picks up a role and every night gives you a moment where you're not sure what's gonna happen next, but usually it's something good and it's always something surprising in the best, theatrical sense of the word. An improv actress with a heart of gold, she devotes most of her time using her powers of theater for good, working with Kaiser Permenente Sacramento and San Jose's Parental Guidance Suggested, in addition to being employed as a drama therapist for frail elders and people living with dementia. Along the way she's appeared in a few plays, including Bell, Book and Candle at the Altarena Playhouse, Blithe Spirit with the Pacific Stage Company, and the European tour of Queen of Wands, not to mention the No Nude Men revival of Speak To Me, in which she played the first Venus Alexander to actually have her scenes staged at work, instead of just wandering around in some ambiguous place with Errol, as in previous productions. Really quite fiery in the role, she still managed to convey a great deal of Venus's complexity, despite a cut monologue and spending most of her stage time behind a desk. Backstage, she's tons of fun and very supportive, which came in handy during the show's bumpier production moments. Apparently she's got a couple one woman shows she does, Under A Bushel and Ambivalent No More, Maybe, which part of me must admit, I'd die to see, only because the question would be where the character ends and Celeste begins. She's one of those actresses where it isn't always easy to tell and in her case, that's a good thing and at the very least, endlessly entertaining.
