Christine Hawkins
Christine Hawkins was a friend of mine from high school who did a little bit of tech work for the theater department and later on came in to design and run lights for Faust and The Exiled. A really smart cookie who went on to a career in botany, she was tons of fun to have in the lighting booth with me and she was the first tech person I ever came to trust, completely letting her take over the technical end of that first production of The Exiled, in which she also got to have a cameo as the voice of an airport loudspeaker. She had no desire to act but she loved sitting in the booth with me to heckle the actors during the pre-show of Faust. The last time I saw her was when she was passing through Portland during my senior year of college. She and Werner James and I spent the night running around the forbidden top floor of the Reed Library, and what we found there remains a secret between us to this day.
