David Hadbawnik
San Francisco publisher, poet and aspiring playwright, David and I met when I joined the cast of his musical, The Seventh Game of the World Series, playing the boyfriend of the lead character, closet-case baseball star Vincent. The show was a roller-coaster from beginning to end, to put it lightly, but I experienced more fun than agony and by the time it was done (and had walked off with the highest attendance award at the San Francisco Fringe that year) David and I had become pretty good friends. He put in a lot of work doing promotions and assistant directing for Speak To Me, and went on to be our PR guy for Troijka, Love Egos Alternative Rock and The Exiled, getting not much more than free tickets to the shows and my heartfelt gratitude. He happily didn't let the mixed response to Seventh Game prevent him from writing for the stage again, and with Stephanie Young co-authoring and directing, he mounted The Last Experimental Poet in Captivity at the 2005 San Francisco Poet's Theater, featuring myself and another member of No Nude Men, Margery Fairchild. His girlfriend, Diane, is a fan, and once told me, "It's so great that you always do love stories," which I took as a compliment. They often host readings in their living room by local writers and poets, and David has been really active in helping to propagate a community of artists in the city, organizing a poets' baseball league and publishing various chapbooks, and in general being an all around golden god.
