Dawn Acuna
Dawn made her Quicksilver Debut and her Tucson theater debut at the same time, appearing as Rheba in my sister's production of You Can't Take It With You and then helping to found Horror Unspeakable by playing the title role in Salome. She was originally from Houston, where she had appeared in productions of Crimes of the Heart, The Children's Hour and Dark of the Moon, and after Salome she continued to act with Quicksilver (playing Titania in A Midsummer Night's Dream and Edith in 'Denity Crisis), Live Theater Workshop, Lost River, Old Tucson Studios and various other companies around Tucson. She directed Hello Out There for Quicksilver Productions and stole my collection of modern one-acts. An energetic, almost limitless person, she was a very nubile dancer and a committed performer and when she took on a role she kind of attacked both the company and the audience with it, excelling at over-the-top comedic performances and in-you-face dramatic roles. Even in Bus Stop, which is a fairly earthy little piece, she nabbed the Marilyn role, playing opposite Wylie Herman, as the cowboy, for the third time in her career (he had previously played Donald in You Can't Take It With You and Iokannan in Salome). Interesting bit of trivia, her skirt in Salome was refashioned from Ashley Zeltzer's skirt in Faust, and later on, Dawn's skirt from Midsummer became Anne's in The Odyssey. Funny the things one remembers over time.
