Deborah Strickland
Deborah, Tracey Pickels and William Cremer all lived together
my senior year, and when the three of them came to auditions
for Vincent of Gilgamesh I was happy to cast all three and couldn’t
have been happier with all three of their final performances.
That said, Deborah was definitely the best actress of the lot,
a real fiery presence onstage as both Rimat-Ninsun and Siduri,
the later of whom she played with a sort of childish innocence
that contrasted sharply with her extremely powerful and omniscient
prophetess. She owned her own vaguely Babylonian summer dress
that accidentally determined the color scheme for the rest of
the show, being green, black, khaki and white with silver highlights.
She knew how to act with her whole body and looked more comfortable
while performing than walking around campus. I don’t know
what she did after I left campus that spring, but I hope she
kept with acting on some level because she was really quite
good and character actresses are in short supply these days.
