Elizabeth Samuels
Liz Samuels, one of the nicest, warmest people I’ve ever
met, was a freshman at Reed College the year I was a senior,
and we met when she was stage managing the faculty production
of American Notes, in which I played The Reporter. She volunteered
to stage manage my thesis, the first production of Vincent of
Gilgamesh, which was cool because one, I didn’t even have
a stage, and two, I really ended up needing someone to help
get this show on, despite having one of the most cooperative
casts ever. Liz was just a goddess though, making staging a
play during the final semester of my college career doable,
as opposed to just plain stupid. Every night, when she would
introduce the play, you could tell from her smile that she was
just plain happy to be there. Hopefully she could tell from
mine that I was just plain happy to have her.
